By Kevin Komiega July 2, 2008 -- In an effort to streamline its storage consulting services, Dell is bringing together technologies and storage expertise from recent acquisitions and partnerships to improve its storage management, data-protection, and disaster-recovery service offerings.
The new portfolio includes a tiered-storage infrastructure implementation service designed to help customers move data to appropriate storage tiers based on use and importance, a service that identifies ways to improve the backup and recovery process and infrastructure, and a managed backup service with remote monitoring and reporting capabilities.
Additionally, through a partnership with GlassHouse Technologies, Dell can now plan, design, and implement disaster-recovery plans.
Paul Kaeley, Dell’s storage consulting practice director, says partnerships and intellectual property have come together to create a more comprehensive set of storage services that can be delivered in short order.
“Our storage acquisitions have enabled us to accelerate the way we deliver consulting services,” says Kaeley. “Acquisitions such as SilverBack and The Network Storage Company give us a differentiated approach to consulting with shorter engagements.”
Dell acquired remote monitoring and management provider SilverBack Technologies last year and acquired The Network Storage Company -- an IT consulting firm that specializes in storage services -- early this year. Add Dell’s storage products and a partnership with GlassHouse, and the company’s consulting services organization begins to take shape.
“We also have our EqualLogic technologies, access to a full portfolio of EMC products, and partnerships with Symantec, CommVault, DoubleTake, and GlassHouse,” says Kaeley.
Pricing for Dell’s new services is based on the number of servers in a customer’s environment. The tiered storage service ranges from $12,000 to $50,000, while the enterprise backup assessment service is priced from $25,000.
