  • Sun Microsystems announced further expansion of its Open Storage portfolio with the introduction of a new line of economical storage arrays and a high-performance addition to the Sun Fire X4500 "Thumper" family.
  • Peer Software has partnered with Parallels, a developer of virtualisation and automation software, to provide continuous data protection (CDP) for Parallels' Virtuozzo Containers virtualised environments. Peer's software provides disaster recovery, high availability, and continuous backup.
  • The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) has announced its agenda and speaker lineup for the 2008 Storage Developer Conference (to be held Sept. 22-25 in Santa Clara, CA). Keynote speakers will represent companies including Amazon, Linux Foundation, NetApp, Samba Team, Sun Microsystems, and VMware. The keynotes and more than 50 additional conference sessions will address SNIA standards work related to the Storage Management Initiative-Specification (SMI-S) and the eXtensible Access Method (XAM), as well as emerging trends, including Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI), virtualization platforms, storage security, green technologies, Server Message Block (SMB) and SMB2 and Common Internet File System (CIFS), among many others. 
  • BakBone Software announced that for the sixth consecutive year, BakBone is the number-one provider of Linux data-protection software in Japan. The findings are from IDC Japan's recently published report, Japan Storage Software 2008-2012 Forecast and 2007 Vendor Shares (J8110107, May 2008). According to IDC, BakBone's NetVault: Backup market share is 71.3%.
  • Data393, a provider of collocation, managed hosting, disaster recovery, and IP network services, announced the completion and availability of its 10,000-sq-ft, data-center expansion. Data393 increased the amount of raised flooring to a total of approximately 30,000 sq ft within its Denver Tech Center facility.
  • LeftHand Networks' Partner Program has added 145 new VARs to its global program since November 2007. At more than 425 partners worldwide, the program's growth is attributed to the rapidly expanding iSCSI SAN market.
