Cleversafe enhances cloud storage platform

October 26, 2010 – Version 2.3 of Cleversafe’s Dispersed Storage Network (dsNet) includes a number of features aimed at improving dynamic provisioning, utilization and security. Specifically, the dsNet cloud storage platform now has enhanced thin provisioning in its object store, disk balancing, and secure network connections between Accesser and Slicestor nodes, according to an article posted on Enterprise Storage Forum.

Cleversafe’s dispersed storage technology divides data into slices and spreads them across multiple storage nodes. Each of the slices is secure, and a defined threshold of slices can be used to “bit-perfectly” recreate the original data. The technology is an alternative to making multiple copies via replication.

Cleversafe officials also announced that In-Q-Tel (IQT) has invested in, and entered into a joint development agreement with, Cleversafe. IQT is a non-profit firm launched by the CIA in 1999 that is set up to “identify and partner with companies developing cutting-edge technologies that serve the national security interests of the United States.”
