November 11, 2010 – Consolidation in the storage industry continued this week with EMC’s acquisition of long-time partner Bus-Tech, which specializes in virtual tape libraries (VTLs) for mainframe environments. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Bus-Tech’s VTLs leverage open systems disk resources to store and retrieve mainframe-based tape data.

Bus-Tech has been an EMC OEM partner since March 2008. The most recent collaboration between the two companies resulted in a Deduplication Storage Expansion option for the EMC DLm960 Disk Library for Mainframe backup system, which is based on the EMC Data Domain DD880 deduplication system.

Bus-Tech’s technology also works with EMC’s Centera, Celerra and Clariion platforms.
