--The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and CompTIA are collaborating to develop a new professional certification for IT professionals in storage networking and information management. The “CompTIA Storage+Powered by SNIA” credential will validate knowledge and skills in data storage, storage networking, data protection and interconnect technologies. A beta is due in Q2 2011, with global availability expected in the second half o f the year. Both organizations are in the processing of recruiting subject matter experts (SMEs).

--Bocada, which specializes in data protection management software, has extended its distribution agreement with value-added distributor Promark Technology. Promark will sell Bocada’s software in government markets through its General Services Administration (GSA) schedule.

--Coraid has announced a cloud storage partnership with Virteva, a managed service provider. Virteva will resell and integrate Coraid’s EtherDrive storage technology and products in the Virteva Private Cloud platform.

--Cloud storage player Nirvanix has appointed Steve Zivanic as vice president of marketing. He will report to Scott Genereux, president and CEO of Nirvanix. Both Zivanic and Genereux were previously with QLogic.
