Scentric integrates with EMC, Google By Ann Silverthorn December 4, 2006—Scentric announced last week that it has completed integration of its Destiny R2 intelligent information management platform with EMC's Centera content-addressed storage (CAS) platform. Today, the company announced that it has joined the Google Enterprise Professional program, whereby Google search will complement Destiny's information classification and management capabilities. Scentric's Destiny R2 is designed to solve information governance issues through a combination of data classification and policy-based management. Destiny R2 includes universal archiving, classification analysis, and management support of data stored on NetWare and NFS file shares. Scentric's universal archiving refers to the ability to manage data of all types—file systems, e-mail, and databases. In addition to meeting information governance requirements, the integrated solution with Centera is designed to allow enterprises to protect confidential information, eliminate duplicate copies of data through tiered storage, and reduce the amount of tier-one storage needed. The combined solution will allow companies to implement automated policy-based processes to address information governance problems that require retention of electronic data. This is Scentric's third major integration project, the first two being with the Archivas ArC and the Hitachi Content Archive Platform (HCAP), which is powered by Archivas. Scentric's announcement regarding its membership in the Google Enterprise Professional program enhances Destiny's information classification and management solution. The Google Enterprise Professional program includes developers, consultants, and independent software vendors that provide value-added services for Google enterprise products. "The Google announcement is specifically about information governance, which will be built as a combination of the Destiny classification solution and the Google enterprise and desktop search engine," says Larry Cormier, Scentric's senior vice president of marketing. "This points out the difference between classification and enterprise search. Search is a subset of classification," Cormier continues. "You need to know the nature of the content so you can provide governance solutions. But you need the classification side, which enables automated policy management. It gives you the ability to combine metadata with content data to get a richer view of the data you have." The integrated Scentric/EMC Centera solution is available immediately. The Google solution will be available in Q1 2007.
