BUSINESS BRIEFS

VMware filed the initial Form S1 registration statement with the SEC related to its intention to offer VMware stock via an IPO. VMware will be offering approximately 10% of its Class A Common Stock. The IPO is expected to be completed in the summer. EMC will retain ownership of the remaining shares of VMware.

IBM has entered into an OEM agreement with Bycast whereby Bycast’s StorageGRID software will become the basis for IBM’s System Storage Grid Access Manager Software, which addresses data archiving. In addition, IBM will use Bycast’s File System Gateway software to provide support for CIFS and NFS in System Storage DR550 platforms.

Tek-Tools announced its Alliance Partner status with LSI whereby Tek-Tools’ Storage Profiler will support all LSI Engenio storage systems that are delivered through LSI’s OEM partners.

Sonasoft recently signed distribution agreements with Synnex in North America, Netswitch in the Asia-Pacific region, and Bell Microproducts in Europe.

StoneFly, a subsidiary of Dynamic Network Factory (DNF), announced support across its entire IP SAN product line for Solaris 10. Separately, StoneFly has a technology partnership with emBoot.

Dot Hill Systems and Promark Technology have expanded their partnership. Promark will be a systems integrator for Dot Hill’s 2730 disk array under the brand name “R/Evolution 2730,” sold through its channel of resellers and integrators. The platform will also be available on Promark’s General Services Agreement (GSA) schedule.

Sepaton has signed a distribution agreement with Tech Data for its virtual tape technology. Separately, Sepaton and Hifn have partnered to deliver data-protection solutions combining Sepaton’s S2100-ES2 virtual tape library and DeltaStor data de-duplication software with Hifn’s Express DR 1000 storage reduction acceleration solution.

Bell Microproducts has signed a distribution agreement with Fabrik, which provides storage, memory, and content management services. The new agreement will enable Bell Micro to distribute Fabrik’s line of SimpleTech-branded memory and storage solutions to the North American channel.

QLogic and Onaro signed an agreement in which QLogic will license a version of Onaro’s SANscreen SME Edition software, which allows SAN administrators to achieve real-time feedback about their SAN infrastructure.

Through an OEM agreement with AvePoint Inc., IBM has added Microsoft Sharepoint to the list of platforms supported by its Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) backup-and-recovery software.

CaminoSoft’s Managed Server HSM software has been certified for HP’s StorageWorks File Migration Agent (FMA) and Reference Information Storage System (RISS) platform.

Northern has become a member in the NetApp Partner Program as an Advantage Partner.

Incipient’s Network Storage Platform (iNSP) has completed interoperability testing with select IBM TotalStorage systems and has become a certified member of the IBM System Storage Proven program.

An article in the May issue (see "CAS users wary of vendor lock-in," p.1) incorrectly stated that Baptist Memorial Health Care uses HP RISS platforms. The organization's primary CAS platforms are EMC Centera systems.
