eDiscovery specialist Autonomy on Monday announced a new release that brings together its review, production, and identification and culling products into a unified solution that can be delivered via cloud, on-premise, hybrid and appliance installations.

The new release brings together Autonomy Stratify for review, Autonomy Introspect for production, and Autonomy Investigator & ECA for identification and culling.

“Autonomy pioneered the modern day eDiscovery market and has a proven track record in helping organizations successfully manage some of the world’s most complex and high-profile litigation over the past few years,” said Mike Sullivan, chief executive officer of Autonomy Protect, Enterprise Markets. “Our new eDiscovery release further strengthens this solution by bringing together the trusted technologies from Stratify, Introspect and Investigator & ECA into one application, and for the first time, enabling businesses to bring 100 percent of their data into the eDiscovery process. Customers can take advantage of this solution through a variety of deployment models and ensure that their eDiscovery processes are a key component of a holistic information governance strategy.”

Acquired by HP (NYSE:HPQ) in October and now a wholly owned subsidiary, Autonomy has also introduced a new eDiscovery appliance, which combines the Autonomy eDiscovery software with HP hardware, including HP ProLiant servers and HP Storage.

Autonomy said organizations can set up the appliance and automatically upload data for review and production to Autonomy’s secure private cloud or a server within a matter of hours.

Autonomy eDiscovery is built on the company’s Autonomy Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) 10 technology, which allows for search and processing of text taken from both structured data and unstructured human information — including e-mail and mobile data — whether it originates in a database, audio, video, text files or streams.

That makes it an ideal tool for the modern enterprise, in which mobile devices are ubiquitous and social media is an essential component of an organization’s operations.

“The ability to handle both unstructured and structured data is a key differentiator, as more organizations seek to process all data types for eDiscovery, including information from structured data sources, such as human resources databases, transactional systems and call center call log data,” Autonomy said. “The ability to handle all forms of data is critical to meeting the eDiscovery demands imposed by regulatory agencies, the courts and opposing parties for greater and more diverse sets of information.”

Autonomy said it uses the ability to process both structured and unstructured data for something it calls Meaning-Based Coding, which leverages IDOL’s ability to conceptually understand the meaning of information to provide coding recommendations regarding relevance to one or more issues in a matter.

Meaning-Based Coding, it said, provides legal teams with an advantage over predictive coding methods by enabling real-time behavioral categorization. Autonomy said these capabilities give organizations the ability to:

  • Understand the team’s coding decisions in relation to the meaning of documents under review
  • Automatically code documents at ingestion based on exemplars or based on automatically clustered content to directly drive workflows that increase the efficiency of identifying potentially relevant documents
  • Dynamically recommend document coding in real-time
  • Automatically update the system’s conceptual understanding of a particular matter as new documents are added and attorneys review and code additional documents

Autonomy has also integrated the Autonomy eDiscovery solution with HP’s Database Archiving (DBA) to collect structured data from applications and databases. In addition to DBA, the wider information governance solution includes Autonomy HP Data Protector, which reduces backup and recovery complexity and cost by protecting virtual and physical applications, and the Autonomy HP TRIM electronic documents and records management system for automating and simplifying information governance. Other connected information governance products include Autonomy Connected Backup, Autonomy Consolidated Archive, Autonomy Legal Hold, Autonomy Police Authority, Autonomy Records Manager, Autonomy Social Media Governance and Autonomy Supervisor.
