-- Compellent Technologies is taking its storage systems downstream with the availability of QuickStart SE (small enterprise) bundles, which are entry-level SAN configurations aimed at companies moving from direct-attached to networked storage.

The QuickStart SE bundles offer a subset of the features found in Compellent's Storage Center SAN, including thin provisioning, continuous snapshots and storage resource management (SRM) with storage virtualization. However, a QuickStart SE system can be upgraded in-place to a full-featured Storage Center SAN

Additional software options such as automated tiering, replication and Compellent's Data Progression technology can be enabled using license keys. Capacity scales via hardware upgrades as users expand the SAN. Fibre Channel, SATA and solid-state disk (SSD) drives can be added to the storage pool without requiring a forklift upgrade.

Entry pricing for QuickStart SE bundles starts at about $25,500 for 4.8TB of Fibre Channel capacity with Dynamic Capacity thin provisioning, Data Instant Replay snapshots and Enterprise Manager SRM applications.

QuickStart SE bundles are available from Compellent's channel partners. Bruce Kornfeld, Compellent's vice president of marketing, says the channel played a big role in the development of the new offering.

"Feedback from our channel partners prompted us to come up with a way to take the Compellent technology and bundle it for smaller customers. We took all of the product features and benefits that are successful in the mid-market down a notch for small enterprises," says Kornfeld.
