-- Wave Systems and Samsung Electronics have collaborated to bring full disk encryption (FDE) to solid-state disk (SSD) drives. The resulting Samsung self-encrypting SSDs automatically encrypt information as it is saved to the drive. The 64GB, 128GB and 256GB drives provide FDE bundled with Wave's Embassy management software and are now available through at least one major OEM.

-- Arkeia and FalconStor have validated compatibility between Arkeia Network Backup v8 software and FalconStor's Virtual Tape Library (VTL) Virtual Appliance and data de-duplication software.

-- Western Digital has expanded its enterprise family of hard drives to include 2TB hard disk drives (HDDs). Combining 64 MB cache, dual processors, and increased areal density, WD RE4-GP hard drives yield twice the processing power resulting in as much as 25% performance improvement over the previous generation. WD RE4-GP 2 TB drives are reliability-rated at 1.2 million hours MTBF (mean time before failure) in high duty cycle environments. The drives cost approximately $329.

-- Tandberg Data introduced the StorageLibrary T120+ tape library, offering from 24 to 114 slots, with capacities ranging from 9.6TB to 91TB (native). The StorageLibrary T40+ Series, comprising of the StorageLibrary T40+, T80+ and T120+, offers a choice of LTO-3 and LTO-4 drives and a host of management features. The StorageLibrary T40+ starts at $5 710 (24 slots), while the T120+ with 114 slots starts at $22 386.

-- Atto Technology's FastStream Storage Controller has been certified with CommandSoft's FibreJet SAN management software, which provides shared-storage management for SANs.

-- Rorke Data announced the general availability of its new Galaxy Aurora LS (LiteSpeed) direct-attached RAID and SAN appliance. Designed with four 8Gbps Fibre Channel host connections, the Galaxy Aurora LS supports sustained transfer rates of more than 1000MBps and rebuild times up to 6x faster than hardware-based RAID solutions, according to the company.
