Storage @ccess Technologies announced the availability of remote enterprise class data-protection services. Based on the @ccess Data Protection family of services, the remote offerings are available via remote direct or Internet connection.

Nishan Systems has signed StorNet as a Charter Alliance Partner for the deployment of Nishan's IP Storage products. As a result, customers can turn to StorNet to implement storage networking solutions with Nishan's products, including SANvergence Management Suite and the SoIP family of IP Storage switches.

OnStream Data B.V., in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, has acquired the intellectual property and other assets of Longmont, CO-based OnStream, which had ceased operations last March. As a result of the acquisition, advanced digital recording tape drives and data cartridges will continue to be manufactured and distributed under the OnStream brand worldwide.

EMC announced the world's first implementation of fully tested standards-based interoperability between Fibre Channel switching devices from various vendors. The initial use of this capability-referred to as E-Port interoperability-provides seamless EMC-tested integration between Fibre Channel devices and software from Brocade Communications Systems and McData, as well as EMC's Connectrix directors and switches.

CommVault Systems and Network Appliance announced that CommVault Galaxy software supports the NetApp FC Fabric Tape SAN Backup solution. The combination of Galaxy software, NetApp filers, and storage area network (SAN) device support delivers a highly scalable data and storage management solution that is easy to deploy and manage, according to the companies. Separately, Quad-ratec Software and Network Appliance announced that Quadratec also supports NetApp's FC Tape SAN Backup and that Time Navigator-Quadratec's backup-and-restore software-is tested and certified on NetApp's Data ONTAP 6.1 operating system.

Yosemite Technologies and Hewlett-Packard announced Yosemite's TapeWare's support for HP Ultrium products and LTO technology. Ultrium's road map is designed to enable future products with compressed capacities up to 1.6TB on a single cartridge and transfer rates ranging from 160MB to 320MB compressed. HP has bundled TapeWare with Surestore DAT, Travan, and DLT drives since January 2000.

Inrange Technologies' IN-VSN FC/9000 Fibre Channel Director has been certified by DataCore Software to operate in storage area networks with DataCore's SANSymphony storage virtualization software. According to company claims, the FC/9000 is the only director-class switching offering that can expand from 24 ports to 128 ports. Separately, Inrange has acquired ONEX, a technology consulting company that designs mission-critical network infrastructures and implements e-business and Enterprise Resource Planning solutions.

SANavigator announced an alliance under which its storage area network management software will be made available to SGI customers.

Imation recently introduced the Kick-Start Program-a comprehensive, half-day, on-site training program facilitated by Imation's vendor-neutral storage architects and engineers to help companies deal with pressing storage issues. The program includes an interactive strategy session to address a company's current IT environment, its storage and infrastructure challenges, and potential pitfalls. Technical and executive tracks are offered.

QLogic announced that its SANblade QLA2300 Series 2 Gigabit Fibre Channel host bus adapters will support IBM's ProFibre Storage Array DF4000J. The device is the first in a series of 2Gb Fibre Channel subsystem enclosures from IBM.

OTG Software and Bell Microproducts announced a strategic distribution agreement to market OTG's DiskXtender 2000, DiskXtender-Unix/Linux, EmailXtender, and SANXtender. Through this agreement, Bell will expand the channel for OTG's storage products worldwide and will bundle the products with storage area network and network-attached storage hardware.

StorageTek announced the compatibility between its StorageNet 6000 Series of storage domain managers and Veritas' NetBackup DataCenter 3.4, which will enable improved backup-and-recovery performance and increase data availability.

Tandberg Data has introduced its ValuSmart Tape 80, a half-high form-factor DLT tape drive that offers the same capacity and performance of its DLT1 tape drive in a 5.25-inch half-high form factor. The unit allows storage servers or workstations to be backed up on a single tape cartridge housed in the server, itself. The device was developed by Benchmark Storage Innovations.

Chaparral Network Systems has dropped its lawsuit against Crossroads Systems for "unfairly interfering with its business" and "defamation." The judge ordered the dismissal with prejudice. Crossroads had filed a patent infringement against Chaparral last year, and that case is set for trial this September.

EMC has qualified its LightPulse LP9002 Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA) for use in EMC Symmetrix and Clariion-based Enterprise Storage Network environments. The Emulex HBA supports 64-bit, 66MHz PCI transfers and operates at up to 2Gbps.

sanrise has raised $115 million in its second round of Series B funding, increasing the total amount of funding to $203 million since the company's inception in May 2000. The infusion of money will accelerate the build-out of the company's fiber-optic data storage network infastructure.

Applied System Design has released Servergraph/TSM, a browser-based monitoring tool for Tivoli Storage Manager. The tool notifies users of failed backups, maintains health-check and activity graphs, shows problem nodes, and predicts out-of-space conditions. Pricing starts at $7,495.

Quantum's DLT and Storage Systems Group announced that IBM began shipping Super DLTtape products to their customers worldwide. The integration of Super DLTtape technology with IBM's storage offerings increases data capacity and allows backward-read compatibility with other DLTtape products.

W. Quinn Associates' StorageCeNTral technology will now be included in Microsoft's Server Appliance Kit (SAK) 2.0. W. Quinn originally announced its strategic alliance with Microsoft two months ago, which involved licensing the StorageCeNTral SRM technology for inclusion in the SAK 2.0. The technologies covered include real-time quota monitoring and enforcement, storage utilization reporting, and screening of unwanted file types such as MP3 files from writing to server appliances built on the SAK 2.0.

Tricord has partnered with Syntegra to manufacture and integrate the Lunar Flare NAS, which is now shipping in limited availability. Under the companies' "try-before-you-buy" program, customers can try the product for up to 30 days, with no obligation.

BlueArc announced the completion of a $72 million round of financing led by Weston Presidio and Celtic House International, Patricof & Co. Ventures, and Apax Partners. Joining this round of funding are Dell Ventures, Euroqube, New York Common Retirement Co-investment Fund, JPMorgan, and Fort Washington Capital. Since the company's inception in 1998, it has secured more than $100 million in financing.

SANavigator has signed BigStorage (San Francisco, CA), InSync Micro-products (El Monte, CA), Patuxent Technology (Columbia, MD), and R Associates (Houston, TX) to distribute the company's platform independent SANavigator in storage area network (SAN) installations.

Peer Software has partnered with Kintronics, a manufacturer of network-attached storage (NAS) systems. Under terms of the agreement, a copy of Peer's File-N-Sync Plus software will be included with each Kintronics NAS device, providing customers with high-performance and cost-effective storage and file management.

DataCore Software has named a series of Technical Partners that have joined its SANvantage Partner Program: ATTO Technology, Emulex, Eurologic Systems, ExaDrive Networks, Fujitsu Softec, Inrange Technologies, Inter-phase, JNI, LSI Logic, McData, MTI Technology, Nishan Systems, QLogic, SAN Valley, Troika, and Vixel. The partners will leverage DataCore's SANsymphony software with their own solutions to simplify management and administration of storage for end users.

Trace Affex has signed an agreement to acquire certain assets of Cygnet Storage Solutions. Under the agreement, Trace Affex will manufacture, support, and market various Cygnet-branded products.

Inrange Technologies and IBM have expanded their strategic business relationship, whereby IBM will now resell and service Inrange's 128-port IN-VSN FC/9000 Fibre Channel Director. The agreement expands a current reseller relationship through which IBM has been marketing Inrange's 64-port director technology to provide the switching infrastructure for open systems and IBM FICON storage networks.

Extending its OEM contract with IBM, Tandberg Data announced that IBM will adopt the SLR100 tape drive and SLR100 Autoloader as the standard backup technology for IBM's midmarket eServer iSeries line.

Quantum/ATL announced the availability of Quantum's next-generation Super DLTtape drives for Quantum/ATL library products. Supporting Super DLTtape drives will be PowerStor L200, the 7100, and all M- and P-Series libraries, including M1500, P1000, P2000, P3000, and P6000. Upgrade kits will be offered for 7100, M-, and P-Series libraries installed at customer facilities.

Neartek announced an agreement with Advanced Digital Information that will bring virtual enterprise-wide tape offerings to the mainframe, open system, and midrange market through the certification of Neartek VSengine software with ADIC's Scalar 100 and 1000 tape libraries. Neartek, a global provider of enterprise virtual storage solutions, operates in New York and Lakeville, MA, with European headquarters in Paris.

Storactive's LiveBackup 2.0, a software solution that provides real-time data protection for Windows-based workstations, was recently cited by Bill Gates for successfully testing its software for enterprise scalability at the Microsoft Technology Center in Silicon Valley. According to Gates, Storactive enacted a successful clustering fail-over test the first day the company's developers were in the lab.
