Topspin Communications, a start-up focused on the emerging enterprise data-center virtualization market, has completed a $30 million second round of venture capital funding, bringing total investment to about $47.5 million. Advent International led this round, joined by previous investors Accel Partners and Redpoint Ventures. New investors include Duff Ackerman & Goodrich and Presidio Venture Partners.

Legato Systems has signed an OEM and distribution agreement with Hitachi CP (Hitachi Computer Peripherals Co. Ltd.), a major subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. The agreement focuses on providing solutions that meet customers' demand for cost-effective, disk-based backup and recovery of information in a SAN, NAS, or DAS environment.

Qualstar has acquired the assets and intellectual properties of N2Power, a privately held company located in Newbury Park, CA. N2Power designs and produces open-frame switching power supplies.

Global Automation, a provider of enterprise software applications for Fortune 500 clients, has created a new division- DinoStor Inc.-focused on delivering advanced solutions for network backup.
