-- A group of vendors has formed the Active Archive Alliance, which is designed to educate end users and resellers about active archive solutions. The group defines an active archive as "an archive that contains production data, no matter how old or infrequently accessed, that can still be retrieved online. Access to the archive is through a file system interface." Initial members include Spectra Logic, active archive application vendors FileTek and QStar, and Compellent.

-- Emulex's FCoE-based OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapters (UCNAs) have been certified for use with Hitachi Data Systems' Universal Storage Platform (USP) and Adaptable Modular Storage (AMS) disk arrays. The 10GbE UCNAs have full hardware-based protocol offload support for TCP/IP, iSCSI and FCoE.

-- 3PAR has become the first storage vendor to join the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) as a corporate member. By joining the CSA, 3PAR is promoting the need for cloud security standards, according to the company. The CSA was created in 2008 to promote best practices for assuring security within cloud computing environments, and to educate the IT industry on the uses of cloud computing in helping secure other forms of computing.

-- Aprius announced the availability of its technology platform for I/O Virtualization, which provides servers access to PCI Express (PCIe) I/O resource pools over a standard layer-2 Ethernet network, extending the servers across all network, storage and peripheral resources via a single Ethernet connection. The Aprius technology connects up to 32 servers via 10GbE to a shared 'pool' of PCIe slots that are virtualized and presented to a server as many virtual devices.
