-- Virtual Instruments is now offering an emergency service for SAN users. The new SOS-4-SANs service is aimed at IT organizations experiencing Fibre Channel SAN availability or performance emergencies. Virtual Instruments uses its NetWisdom SAN optimization and VirtualWisdom virtual infrastructure optimization products to identify and resolve Fibre Channel SAN emergencies. The service works with all Fibre Channel SAN devices including those from EMC, Hitachi Data Systems, IBM, HP, 3PAR, Dell, Sun, Brocade, Cisco, Qlogic, and Emulex.

-- Enhance Technology has announced support for Hitachi's Ultrastar 2TB 7200RPM hard disk drives (HDDs) across the Enhance portfolio of storage systems. The 2TB HDDs increase capacities of the company's 8 disk desktop and rackmount storage arrays to 16TB and as much as 32TB on its flagship 16-disk UltraStor Professional Storage Systems. The UltraStor Professional Storage System is expandable to 160TB through SAS storage expansion.

-- LSI announced it is sampling the LSISAS2208 dual-core 6Gbps SAS RAID-on-Chip (ROC) IC to OEM customers. The high-performance LSI SAS ROC is intended to support the forthcoming PCI Express 3.0 specification, currently under development within the PCI-SIG, and provide I/O performance levels for next-generation server platforms based on PCI Express 3.0 and flash-based solid-state disk (SSD) storage. The third-generation LSI SAS ROC will deliver performance levels of up to 600,000 IOPS, according to the company.

-- Nasuni, a startup company preparing to offer a gateway to cloud storage, announced today it has secured $8 million in Series A funding from North Bridge Venture Partners and Sigma Partners.

-- Point Software & Systems GmbH released version 2.0 of Point Storage Manager – a software-based storage tiering tool – for Windows NTFS based hard disk systems and NetApp FAS systems.
