The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) announced its Board of Directors for 2003-04. Bob Williamsen (McData) is FCIA secretary, and Tom Hammond-Doel (Vixel) is FCIA treasurer. Members-at-large include David Allen (LSI Logic); Yuichi Arai (Netmarks)—FCIA-J representative on the Board; Arthur B. Edmonds, Jr. (Hitachi Data Systems); Mark Hamel (Hewlett-Packard); Skip Jones (QLogic); Gordy Lutz (Seagate Technology LLC); and Rich Ramos (Xyratex International).

Artesia Technologies and Storigen Systems have a partnership that unites Artesia TEAMS distributed repository capabilities with Storigen's Distributed Storage Network (DSN). The companies have integrated their respective products and are jointly marketing the combined solution to existing and prospective customers.

St. Bernard Software has announced an OEM relationship with Lindon, UT-based Altiris, whereby Altiris will integrate St. Bernard's Embedded Open File Manager into Altiris Recovery Solution 5.7.

DataCore Software has teamed with NOX Co. Ltd., a network systems integrator and solution provider, to address storage management needs in combined SAN/NAS environments. NOX will offer consultation, implementation, sales, and support for DataCore's SANsymphony software throughout Japan.

Quantum has shipped 100 million DLTtape media cartridges, outpacing the nearest competition in the midrange tape market by a factor of 10:1, according to company claims.

CommVault Systems and StorageTek have signed a global OEM agreement extending their current interoperability agreements. StorageTek receives exclusive worldwide distribution rights to a jointly developed StorageTek-branded version of CommVault QiNetix Quick Recovery software. Separately, Sistina Software and CommVault have entered into an OEM relationship to integrate Sistina's file services and volume management software with CommVault's data-protection products.

Arkeia and Interstate Software have signed a reseller agreement for enterprise network backup-and-recovery solutions that take advantage of high-performance MySQL database applications.

STORServer has formed an OEM agreement with Spectra Logic to incorporate the company's line of high-density tape libraries into STORServer's S Series Backup Appliances. STORServer changed its status to OEM partner after serving two years as a VAR of Spectra Logic products.

One week after the Executive Board of the InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) approved a new Fibre Channel Backbone standard (FC-BB-2), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accepted the document, INCITS 372. The new American National Standard, produced by INCITS Technical Committee T11, defines the functions and mappings necessary to bridge between physically separate instances of the same network definition. The document consists of three distinct Fibre Channel mappings resulting in the following three specifications: Fibre Channel over ATM backbone network (FC-BB-2_ATM); Fibre Channel over SONET backbone network (FC-BB 2_SONET); and Fibre Channel over TCP/IP backbone network (FC-BB-2_IP). Although SONET, ATM, and TCP/IP links cannot be directly interconnected, all three types of links may be present in the same Fibre Channel fabric.

Intransa has expanded its integration channel with the addition of three new channel partners—GreenPages, Zones, and Intervision—that will play a strategic role in ensuring the reliable implementation and delivery of the IP5000 full-featured IP SAN.

Storability Software has acquired ProvisionSoft's intellectual property and intangible assets related to its DynamicIT software product, a resource management software application. The acquisition enables Storability customers to allocate and use existing storage and server resources in a data center to reduce the overall cost of ownership and eliminate expensive over-provisioning of resources.

IBM has a new offering that allows qualified customers to choose between making lower payments with reduced financing rates or deferring all payments at no charge until 2004. No interest is charged during the deferral and standard financing rates apply when payments begin. The "Power to Choose" offering is available for a variety of IBM hardware, software, and services.
