-- Sepaton has announced a new deduplicating virtual tape library (VTL) for medium-sized businesses and a round of software enhancements that boost the capacity and bandwidth utilization features of its DeltaStor and DeltaRemote software.

The S2100-MS2 VTL is a rack-ready dual-node system bundled with Sepaton's DeltaStor data deduplication software. The S2100-MS2 has a minimum capacity of 36TB (30TB usable) and a maximum capacity of 192TB (160TB usable).

The S2100-MS2 performs at an ingest speed of 1,200MBps and is upgradeable to Sepaton's high-end S2100-ES2 VTL.

Vice president of worldwide marketing, Jay Kramer, says Sepaton has about 2,000 customers with more than 200PB of storage deployed in production environments.

The introduction of the S2100-MS2 lowers the entry point for Sepaton customers, especially those with satellite offices.

"A lot of our customers have small, remote sites where 30TB is more than enough capacity. They initially deploy a VTL at the core data center and then use the DeltaRemote option for replication," says Kramer.

Sepaton also rolled out new versions of its DeltaStor data deduplication and DeltaRemote replication software in conjunction with the launch of the S2100-MS2.

DeltaStor version 5.3 features new support for EMC NetWorker versions 7.3, 7.4 and 7.5. DeltaStor software can now dedupe all data types for supported versions of Symantec NetBackup, IBM TSM, HP Data Protector, and NetWorker.

Sepaton also tweaked DeltaStor 5.3 to improve deduplication for incremental backups, structured data and previously unsupported data types

The optional DeltaRemote 5.3 replication software features support for six nodes for NetBackup, TSM and NetWorker. It works in tandem with the new features of DeltaStor to reduce replication bandwidth requirements and concurrently replicates data during the backup and deduplication processes.

Pricing for the S2100-MS2 starts at $321,000 and includes the DeltaStor license. Pricing for DeltaRemote starts at $11,000 per node. Existing Sepaton customers can download DeltaStor and DeltaRemote 5.3 software at no charge.
