EMC will acquire White Plains, NY-based System Management Arts (Smarts), a privately held maker of software for managing corporate data networks, for about $260 million in cash. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2005.

MaXXan Systems has received an additional $29 million in venture funding led by BA Venture Partners, bringing the total secured financing in the company to $113 million. Other investors included US Venture Partners (USVP), Venrock Associates, China Development Industrial Bank, and Inventec.

Archivas has secured $10 million in a second round of funding, bringing the company’s total financing to date to $16 million. The round included original investors North Bridge Venture Partners and Polaris Venture Partners, and a new investor, Solstice Capital.

FalconStor Software and ICM are collaborating on a new solution that will enable ICM to deliver a Storage GateWay Appliance for IBM iSeries, the Nexus Storage Gateway, powered by FalconStor’s IPStor software.

The Enterprise Storage Solutions division of Arrow Electronics Inc. has signed an agreement to distribute and support BakBone Software’s NetVault data-protection software products and services.
