  • Mimosa Systems has secured $11 million in its second round of venture financing, bringing the company's total funding to $17.5 million. This Series B round was led by JAFCO Ventures, with participation by current investors August Capital, Clearstone Venture Partners, and Lighthouse Capital Partners.
  • NEC Corp. has integrated Emulex' InSpeed SOC 422 embedded storage switching technology into the newest models of NEC Storage S series line of midrange and entry-level storage products--the S500, S1500, and S2500 models.
  • Quantum will add the DLTSage Tape Security feature to its firmware beginning in early 2006. The feature will be available on Quantum's newest drives and will control access to data that resides on tape cartridges. In related news, Quantum will also begin reselling Decru's DataFort encryption appliance in early 2006. Quantum also plans to offer native encryption on its tape drives, autoloaders, and libraries in the first half of 2006.
  • Maxtor and LSI Logic have completed compatibility testing of Maxtor's Atlas SAS hard drive family and LSI Logic SAS HBAs, expanders, RAID controllers, and ASIC initiators.
  • Maxell Corporation of America has created a government, education, and medical (GovEdMed) program so government agencies, educational institutions, and medical facilities can best meet their increased data storage requirements. As part of the program, Maxell is working with its authorized dealers and distributors to make it easier for GovEdMed organizations to purchase Maxell's recordable media, including midrange computer tapes, DVDs, CDs, and floppy disks.
  • The SBM Division of Arrow Electronics Inc. recently facilitated training in its own facilities for 16 reseller organizations interested in long-term data storage using Hewlett-Packard's StorageWorks Reference Information Storage System (RISS) and File System Extender (FSE) solutions. HP has North American licensing rights to FSE from Grau Data Storage (Germany).
  • Tandberg Data, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tandberg Data ASA, will begin shipping Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers QuickStart Edition backup-and-recovery software with selected versions of its StorageLoader LTO tape drives and SLR tape drives.
  • For its Digitiliti utility-based storage services, Storage Elements is using a combination of clustered controllers from Digi-Data and JBOD disk arrays from Xyratex.
  • Sun Microsystems has qualified and made generally available McData's Intrepid 10000 Director (i10K) for both Fibre Channel and FICON deployments as part of Sun's portfolio of storage networking solutions. Separately, Sun has selected Emulex' 4Gbps HBAs for its new UltraSPARC T1-based family of Sun Fire servers with CoolThreads technology.
