  • Atempo has acquired privately held Storactive Inc. of Marina del Rey, CA, a provider of continuous data protection (CDP) software. Atempo will maintain the existing Storactive facilities in Marina del Rey and in Moscow, Russia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
  • At the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco this week, a group of vendors announced the Storage Bridge Bay (SBB) Working Group, which will develop standards for entry-level external storage systems. The group will focus on technologies such as iSCSI, SAS, archiving, and virtual tape libraries. Founding members include Dell, EMC, Intel, and LSI Logic. Other members include Adaptec, AMCC, Aristos Logic, Astute Networks, Dot Hill Systems, Neterion, Rasilient, Seagate, and Xyratex. For more information go to www.sbbwg.org.
  • William Bedford and William Oppermann, both formerly associated with Raidtec, have co-founded MPSTOR (www.mpstor.com ), a storage solutions company that designs and supplies enclosures, tiered storage server blades, and storage applications and management software. The company focuses on OEM and integrators interested in partnering to deliver leading-edge solutions. MPSTOR's first product family includes iBOD intelligent high-density storage enclosures.
  • RAID Inc. has partnered with Kashya to provide a solution for complete data protection and business continuity in heterogeneous environments with no distance limitation, achieving compression rates up to 15:1.
  • Xiotech has certified VMware ESX Server for use with its Magnitude 3D family of network storage systems. This certification will provide mid-tier enterprises with the ability to take advantage of VMware ESX Server's virtual software infrastructure on Xiotech's Magnitude 3D SAN systems. Separately, Xiotech opened its new development center at the Tidewater Cove complex in Vancouver, WA. The center will be developing the company's next generation of evidence management solutions.
  • Chelsio Communications and Open-E GmbH, a developer of add-on storage software modules that turn industry-standard servers into storage appliances, have partnered to deliver high-performance data management products. Separately, FalconStor Software has certified Chelsio's T210 single-port 10GbE and T204 quad-port TOE/iSCSI acceleration adapters for SuSE 9.3 Linux as fully interoperable with its IPStor 5.0 software.
  • Digi-Data has acquired the assets of Commack, NY-based bigVAULT Storage Technologies, a provider of online storage and collaboration services.
