  • Emulex and Sierra Logic have signed a definitive agreement whereby Emulex will acquire Sierra Logic, a provider of embedded ASIC components and firmware solutions for enterprise storage systems. In other news, Emulex' SMI-S-compliant LightPulse family of HBAs for Windows and Linux is fully tested and certified for use with the new HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) 5.0 management solution.
  • Data Domain has received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office entitled "Efficient Data Storage System." The patent covers the technology critical for capacity optimization of data storage on disk.
  • Diligent Technologies has partnered with Nth Generation to provide its complete line of Data Protection solutions to their enterprise customers. With Diligent's ProtecTIER with HyperFactor, VTF Open, and VTF Mainframe, Nth Generation can provide its clients with data protection and VTL solutions.

  • Hitachi Data Systems has added the 4Gbps Brocade SilkWorm 48000 Director and the Brocade SilkWorm 200E Switch to its portfolio of networked storage solutions, which also includes the Brocade SilkWorm 4100 midrange switch, the industry's first 4Gbps switch, brought to market in November 2004.
  • KOM Networks has announced full support for Sony Electronics' 23GB Professional Disc for Data (ProDATA) Drive within its KOMworx suite of products. The ProDATA drive, included in libraries from ASACA, DISC, and DSM, delivers higher capacity, enhanced performance, and longer data archival life, according to company claims.
  • In separate news, KOM Networks and Hyland Software have integrated KOMworx (e-WORM) hard-disk archiving technology with Hyland's OnBase enterprise content management (ECM) software. The combined solution will allow organizations to comply with regulatory requirements and corporate-governance guidelines while controlling access to the archive repository.
  • NeoScale Systems introduced at the SHARE Technology Exchange Expo the industry's first direct-to-tape solution for mainframe tape encryption. Combining NeoScale's CryptoStor Tape security appliance with Luminex's Virtual|BLUE 3490 mainframe tape gateway, this solution natively attaches to a mainframe system and encrypts data stored on tape drives from leading open systems tape vendors.
  • Pillar Data Systems has signed a distribution agreement with Bell Microproducts, whereby Bell Microproducts will sell Pillar Axiom storage solutions to OEMs, VARs, and system integrators throughout the US, Canada, and Latin America.
  • Princeton Softech and Alinean have partnered to bring both existing and potential data-management clients stronger quantifiable proof of how implementing a data-storage strategy helps drive enterprise IT costs down and performance up. Alinean's ROI Analyst software will be integrated with Princeton Softech's client-engagement process.
  • Seagate Technology's 750GB Barracuda ES Serial ATA (SATA) hard-disk drive has successfully completed compatibility testing with InfortrendEonStor SATA RAID subsystems including 4-, 8-, 12-, 16-, and 24-bay models. The 750GB Barracuda allows a RAID subsystem to support 50 percent more capacity compared to using the same number of 500GB drives.
  • Silverback Systems' iSNAP 2110 iSCSI host bus adapter (HBA) drivers have been qualified to carry the Microsoft iSCSI Designed for Windows logo.
  • XOsoft has signed an OEM agreement with StoneFly Networks. StoneFly will re-license XOsoft's WANSync and WANSyncHA software under the StoneFly Replicator CDP brand.
