  • The Eclipse Foundation, an open source community committed to the implementation of a universal development platform, recently approved the creation of the Aperi Storage Management Framework Project. The Aperi Project, which was proposed in June 2006, will give customers more choices for deploying open storage infrastructure software--based on an industry-standard framework developed by the open source community. Aperi is a community of 10 leading storage industry vendors--Brocade Communications, Cisco Systems, CA, Emulex, Fujitsu Ltd., IBM, LSI Logic, McData, Network Appliance, and Novell--that are working together to build and evolve a common, open platform for managing all brands of storage systems.
  • SiliconSystems announced a Series C investment by Samsung Ventures, which invests in leading technology companies related to the business activities of the Samsung Group, including flagship company Samsung Electronics, SiliconSystems' primary supplier of storage components.
  • Bell Microproducts and Tek-Tools have teamed to offer a storage assessment program designed to aid IT managers at medium-sized to large environments to better plan and/or re-allocate storage use to best meet their needs. The storage assessment program collects storage data and provides detail on its usage patterns and is vendor-neutral.
  • Softek Storage Solutions' open systems data migration and data replication software products have successfully completed interoperability testing with IBM's System Storage products and have been confirmed as IBM System Storage Proven.
  • iStor Networks has been selected by D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumers and business, for use in D-Link's newest xStack Storage iSCSI SAN family of products for the SMB.
  • Dell and EMC announced a five-year extension of their global alliance, through 2011, to deliver networked storage solutions for organizations of all sizes.
  • Daticon, a Xiotech company, has released Virtual Partner 8, a hosted service that gives customers direct access to their electronic data discovery (EDD) and paper conversion data through Daticon's Web-hosted central repository.
