  • Data classification vendor Scentric is offering a free Data Privacy Assessment Tool that companies can use to assess potential data privacy risks. The download is available at The tool discovers data from several categories, including confidential, copyright, credit cards, social security numbers, objectionable content, payroll information, and health information.
  • GST Inc., which sells a variety of storage solutions for IBM eServer platforms, has named AlphaCom as its first master distributor. AlphaCom will resell GST products in North America and Europe.
  • StoneFly, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dynamic Network Factory, has a US distribution agreement with PAC Data, a nationwide distributor of storage products and services. PAC Data will serve as an anchor for the StoneFly MVP Channel Program, supporting the company's VARs as they expand into new markets while accelerating growth of StoneFly's overall reseller network across the US.
  • The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has approved and issued a fifth patent to Incipient for its technology innovations. U.S. Patent 7,173,929, titled "Fast-path for performing data operations," was issued on February 6, 2007. The newly awarded patent covers split-path architecture for performing block-level storage virtualization for scalable and highly available switching fabrics which is a core technology within Incipient's flagship product, Incipient Network Storage Platform.
