Microsoft and EMC have a licensing agreement whereby Microsoft will license EMC’s Smarts network discovery and health monitoring technology to integrate into a future version of System Center Operations Manager. EMC will develop and deliver network management and root-cause analysis solutions for System Center Operations Manager.

A number of vendors have banded together to propose a specification, dubbed Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), to the ANSI T11 standards committee. FCoE would enable SAN traffic to be natively transported over Ethernet networks. Initial supporters include Brocade, Cisco, EMC, Emulex, IBM, Intel, Nuova, QLogic, and Sun. Network Appliance has renamed the Topio TDPS software as NetApp ReplicatorX. The software provides block-level continuous data replication across heterogeneous storage platforms. NetApp acquired Topio last year.

Neterion and iStor Networks demonstrated an iSCSI-based SAN operating at line rate 10Gbps speeds in the Solution Center at the Storage Networking World conference last month.

Permabit has entered into a partnership agreement with CaminoSoft. CaminoSoft’s Premier Channel Partner Program will enable both companies to provide organizations with solutions for setting information storage policy and managing information retention throughout its lifecycle.

Plasmon and Nexsan announced the Enterprise Active Archive (EAA) platform for managing business-critical and compliant information. The EAA integrates Nexsan’s Assureon software with Plasmon’s Archive Appliance to provide a multi-tier archiving system.

NTP Software is partnering with Decru, a NetApp company, to offer joint customers integrated data-management and security solutions.

Sepaton has secured $22 million in series E financing. New investor HarbourVest Partners led the funding round, which also included participation from existing investors Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP), Menlo Ventures, and Valhalla Partners. 

Ciprico’s MediaVault RAID series has been certified with Tiger Technology’s MetaSAN cross-platform, file-sharing SAN management software.

Permabit has entered into a partnership with StoredIQ. The companies will provide a single source offering that can automatically set retention parameters for any type of information and manage the storage of that information for any period of time to meet compliance and archival needs.

NEC has selected Coast Solutions Group (CSG) to deploy NEC server and storage professional services.
