VMware has introduced a hardware certification program for storage virtualization devices. The program is aimed at storage vendors, but is designed to enable end users to have more choice in deploying virtualized storage solutions in VMware Infrastructure environments. Initial partners include vendors such as EMC, Hitachi Data Systems, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, and Network Appliance.

ATTO Technology’s FastStream VT 5300 Virtual Tape Appliance has been certified with EMC’s Retrospect backup-and-recovery software. Also, ATTO’s FibreBridge 2390 and FibreBridge 2400 have been certified with CA ARCserve Backup 11.5 for Windows.

Emulex’s LightPulse virtual host bus adapter (HBA) technology, with N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) support, is integrated into the latest release of VMware Infrastructure.

Open-E is integrating Adaptec’s Remote Access Service in its Open-E DSS, NAS-R3, and iSCSI-R3 software.

FilesX’s Xpress Restore data-recovery solution received the Ready for IBM Tivoli Software validation.

Fujitsu Ltd. has selected Emulex’s IOP 502M for integration into the ETERNUS2000 Storage System to provide a single-chip solution for simultaneous front-end Fibre Channel SAN connectivity and back-end SAS/SATA disk connectivity.

Pillar Data Systems has selected Emulex’s InSpeed embedded storage switches and qualified Emulex’s 4Gbps LightPulse Fibre Channel HBAs for integration into its Axiom storage system.

Spectra Logic has added an iSCSI interface to its T50 tape library by using iSCSI-to- SCSI bridging technology from Bridgeworks.

F5 Networks’ WANJet 500 WAN optimization appliance is now available through the EMC Select Program.

IBM has a definitive agreement to acquire NovusCG, a privately held storage solutions company based in Manassas, VA. Financial terms were not disclosed. Novus will become part of the Storage and Data Services business unit in IBM Global Technology Services.

CommVault announced that Dell will deliver the Simpana 7.0 software suite as part of the companies’ OEM agreement. Together, the two companies will offer customers expanded options for data protection, replication, and archive, including new Single Instance Store (SIS), optimized 64-bit integration, and support for the latest Microsoft advanced platform capabilities. CommVault has also added the Simpana 7.0 suite to its OEM agreement with Hitachi Data Systems.

ADrive.com, an online data storage and backup company, introduced its new public file-sharing feature. ADrive users are now able to share any of their files in their ADrive account instantly with friends, etc., while keeping their unshared files private.

Systems Alliance, a regional systems integrator providing IT and business consulting services, has been named a Sun/StorageTek Elite Partner.

Micro Depot, a maker of custom computing and mobile storage solutions, has selected Adaptec Unified Serial (SATA/SAS) RAID controllers to help ensure software and hardware compatibility, improving time- to-market, and facilitating customer deployment.

Acronis, a provider of scalable storage management and disaster-recovery software, has collaborated with AMD to help its customers more effectively recover their information on servers and personal computers running on AMD processors.

Vormetric has partnered with IBM to deliver database encryption capabilities for DB2 on Windows, Linux, and Unix.
