Networked storage is being deployed in conjunction with server virtualization by a growing number of organizations to consolidate, reduce costs and improve the flexibility and availability of mission-critical applications, including databases and e-mail. ESG research indicates that IT managers looking to reap the benefits of server and storage consolidation are concerned about performance. This ESG Lab report presents the results of a new performance benchmark methodology that was designed to assess the real-world performance capabilities of an IBM SAN-attached DS5300 storage system deployed in a highly virtualized, consolidated data center.
