– VMware has added a slew of new storage features in the 4.1 release of vSphere that bring storage hardware acceleration to the virtualization platform.

One key addition in vSphere 4.1 is vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI), which allows VMware ESX servers to offload storage operations to compliant storage hardware. Other new features include Block Zero, Full Copy and Hardware Assisted Locking.

A number of disk array vendors were quick to announce support for the new vSphere 4.1 features, including 3PAR, EMC, HDS and NetApp.
