-- Quantum's DXi7500 disk backup system has been qualified by Symantec for its OpenStorage API direct tape creation capability to support the new release of NetBackup 6.5.4. OpenStorage direct tape creation adds the ability to create copies on tape, all in a fully automated process managed and tracked by NetBackup.

-- Forsythe Solutions Group has acquired Paragon Solutions Group, a provider of IBM server and storage solutions and an IBM Premier Business Partner.

-- Hewlett-Packard (HP) will soon be shipping all of the gear necessary to build an end-to-end 6Gbps Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) infrastructure. HP's 6Gbps SAS portfolio now includes SAS drives, Smart Array RAID controllers, HP ProLiant G6 servers, and the new HP StorageWorks D2000 family of 6Gbps SAS Disk Enclosures.

-- Enterprise content management (ECM) vendor Alfresco Software and storage software provider Caringo introduced a combined solution for managing and storing content for billions of files. Developed by XeniT, a partner of both companies, the Alfresco2CAStor connector is now available on Alfresco Forge, and Caringo is offering a free download of its CAStor content storage software for up to 4TB capacity. 

-- Sorrento Networks announced that its GigaMux dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) metro optical access system has been verified by Brocade as compatible with Brocade-based SAN infrastructures, according to the testing requirements of the Brocade Data Center Ready Program.

-- SteelEye has launched version 7 of its SteelEye Protection Suite (SPS) for Windows Server, a high availability and disaster recovery solution for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. The new version features integrated data replication and high availability clustering software from SteelEye's DataKeeper and LifeKeeper products.
