-- Xiotech has completed a private placement of $10 million in financing. The additional funds are to be used to build on the company's Emprise product line and Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) technology by bringing complementary new products to market in early 2010, according to the company. Xiotech has also secured a new $10 million line of credit.

-- Panasas is partnering with Penguin Computing to deliver a parallel storage system for the Penguin on Demand (POD) cloud computing service. The system is targeted at high performance computing (HPC) environments, and is based on Panasas' ActiveStor hardware and PanFS Parallel File System.

-- Bell Microproducts announced that it will distribute Pliant Technology's Lightning Enterprise Flash Drives (EFDs). 

-- BakBone Software is set to debut new data protection software in the coming months. Dubbed, the Open Data Protection platform, the products are expected to extend BakBone's tape-based technologies to the world of disk with newly integrated data deduplication technology.

-- IceWEB has launched a line of cloud storage appliances that can be used to manage private storage cloud or hybrid public/private cloud configurations. The Iplicity Cloud Storage Appliance (CSA) product line is comprised of three pre-configured models:  The CSA-2000, a base level appliance with 8TB of storage and the Iplicity Management Software, the CSA-4000 with 16TB expandable to 192TB, and the CSA-8000 with 24TB expandable to 192TB. Both the CSA-4000 and CSA-8000 are also available in an optional active/active high availability configuration.

-- Samsung Electronics announced that its 60GB and 120GB solid-state disk (SSD) drives have been selected for use as an option across HP's ProLiant G6 servers, as well as select ProLiant G5 servers. The latest HP ProLiant G6 server platforms were designed to support virtualized environments that require significant memory, data storage and network connections to optimize server performance.

-- Mellanox Technologies has announced availability of the Mellanox ConnectX-2 EN 40G converged network adapter (CNA), a 40 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) that supports hardware-based I/O virtualization, including Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV), and delivers the features needed for a converged network with support for Data Center Bridging (DCB).
