STK bridges NT, high-end libraries

For the first time, users can attach Windows NT servers to Storage Technology`s high-end Nearline tape libraries, including PowderHorn, WolfCreek and TimberWolf (models 9710 and 9740 only). STK last week began shipping its LibAttach software, which runs on NT servers. Previously, NT servers attached only to STK`s low-end Nearline libraries.

LibAttach allows attachment of multiple NT servers to multiple libraries. Users can also connect heterogeneous platforms (e.g., NT, UNIX, and MVS) to the libraries through STK`s Nearline Server (see diagram). In a heterogeneous environment, tape drives are dedicated to specific platform types.

The LibAttach client software is compatible with Legato`s Networker storage management software. STK is working with other ISVs for certification.

LibAttach costs $4,500 per NT server, including device drivers. For more information, contact Storage Technology Corp. at (303) 673-5050 or visit www.storagetek.com.
