PLC enhances StackOS

Programmed Logic Corp. last month enhanced its StackOS embedded operating system, which is designed for storage-optimized devices in the network-attached storage (NAS) and storage-area network (SAN) markets. OEMs such as Creative Design Solutions and Retrieve Inc. use StackOS in their storage servers. More OEM announcements are expected over the next several months.

The improvements in the 2.0 version of StackOS are primarily due to a high-speed SCSI framework and drivers, but PLC has also added faster embedded NFS and SMB server modules and a TCP/IP stack. In addition, StackOS now supports Accelerated Technologies` Nucleus realtime operating system as well as Wind River`s VxWorks RTOS. StackOS works with PLC`s suite of storage management products, including a journaling system, volume manager, and modules such as on-line backup, HSM, and data compression. The operating system is compatible with Intel x86 and i960 CPUs, as well as the MIPS and Strongarm processors.
