Digi-Data targets high-end Fibre Channel

Claiming sustained throughput rates in excess of 55MBps, Digi-Data`s Z-9502 RAID 3 Fibre Channel controller includes two host connections. The Z-9552 version includes support for RAID-5.

The Z-9552 is aimed at applications such as file server, database, and OLTP, while RAID-3 Z-9502 is geared toward applications such as editing two streams of video, storage, and retrieval of graphics for digital prepress and medical applications, and moving large files for Internet service applications.

Both controllers include six Wide/Ultra SCSI disk channels at 40MBps each, up to 256MB of cache, and cable lengths of 33 meters (with copper cable) or 500 meters (with fiber-optic cable). The controllers can be enhanced with Digi-Data`s SCATS firmware, which the company claims can double controller performance by striping data across 10 or more disks. www.digidata.com.
