Adaptec expands Ultra2 SCSI HBAs

Adding to its existing AHA-2940U2W line of host bus adapters, Adaptec last month announced four new Ultra2 LVD SCSI HBAs, some with features such as a 64-bit PCI bus and dual channels. Ultra2 LVD (low voltage differential) SCSI provides an 80MBps transfer rate and 12-meter cable lengths. All of the controllers are based on Adaptec`s SpeedFlex technology.

The AHA-2940U2, 2940U2B and 3950U2B ship this month, and the 2950U2B is due in October. Pricing was not available at press time.

Separately, Adaptec announced Ultra2 LVD SCSI support for the Macintosh. The Power Domain 2940U2W accelerator card comes in a kit that includes the card, control software, DiscBasics format utility software and four SCSI cables. Price: $499. www.adaptec.com.
