Kanematsu offers storage management system

Kanematsu USA and its business partner Nippon Techno Lab recently began shipping HiOp, a combined hardware and software storage management device designed to free up Windows NT servers from the CPU-draining task of managing optical storage resources.

On the hardware side, the HiOp contains an intelligent PCI board with a 75MHz Pentium processor, which runs jukebox management and file requests and offloads I/O functions from an NT server`s main processor and memory. The 32-bit software helps streamline jukebox access and management.

Because HiOp is configured as a virtual storage device under the Windows NT file system and handles all storage management functions, NT recognizes MO or CD-ROM disks in the jukebox as removable or fixed media. The list price is $8,500. www.kanematsuusa.com.
