Legato tackles HSM, Y2K

Legato Systems has started shipping its NetWorker Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) Client, designed to facilitate data migration. HSM allows users to define storage policies that control the placement of online data storage, and automatically moves infrequently-accessed files to secondary storage devices. The HSM client is integrated with Legato NetWorker`s backup and restore software and is compatible with Windows NT, UNIX, and NetWare.

NetWorker HSM Client 5.2.1 for Solaris is now shipping, priced at $18,000 per NetWorker Server. Other platforms will be supported early next year.

In an effort to help customers build a Year 2000 contingency plan for business continuance, Legato has also announced a toolkit, consisting of a white paper, Legato GEMS Reporter software, and consulting services. Introductory pricing for GEMS Reporter is $1,000. Legato Professional Services are provided at an average cost of $2,000 per day.
