Plasmon enters automated tape market

This quarter Plasmon will venture into tape automation with a series of libraries based on IBM`s Magstar MP 3570 drive technology. According to a technical licensing agreement with IBM, Plasmon will offer the libraries as a midrange solution for applications such as data warehousing, disaster recovery, and storage management.

The Plasmon-brand libraries scale from 360GB of capacity (3:1 compression) with one or two MP drives and 20 cartridges to 4.8TB of compressed capacity with six drives and 324 cartridges. The Magstar MP drives feature a 7MBps native transfer rate, and the libraries boast an average drive load time of 7 seconds.
