Sterling announces virtual tape

Last month, Sterling Software introduced SAMS:Vtape, a virtual tape suite designed to provide scalable, easy-to-use storage and to eliminate compatibility issues among MVS host-based networks. SAMS:Vtape creates virtual tapes and devices within MVS systems and reduces the need to mount physical tapes. When data is transferred to tape, it is buffered and written to physical tapes under the software`s control, ensuring that tape media is fully used. Pricing starts at $25,000. www.sterling.com.
