Toshiba ships 6X DVD-ROM drives

Toshiba America Electronic Components (TAEC) is shipping the SD-M1212, a 6X-max DVD-ROM drive. By developing an improved pickup head and a new digital signal processor, TAEC decreased access times to less than 110ms and average seek times to less than 80ms.

The SD-M1212 provides 6X playback for DVD-ROM (8.1MBps) and 32X speed maximum playback for CD-ROM (4.8MBps). Targeted to OEMs and system integrators, the drives have a list price of $149.99. www.toshiba.com/taec.
