HP aquires Transoft
Continuing its push into the storage network market, Hewlett-Packard last month acquired Santa Barbara, CA-based Transoft Networks, a developer of management software for storage area networks (SANs), including the flagship SAN Manager suite. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Marilyn Edling, general manager of HP`s Enterprise Storage Business Unit, which will handle the Transoft product line, says that HP acquired Transoft in order to provide configuration and management software for heterogeneous SANs. Transoft`s SAN Manager allows Windows NT and Unix platforms to share a common pool of storage over Fibre Channel connections. Transoft also bundles its software with Clariion disk arrays, Brocade Communications switches, and Vixel hubs.
HP plans to retain Transoft`s 60 employees, who will remain in Santa Barbara. The products will be sold under the HP brand name. Transoft president and CEO Michael Klein is expected to stay on as a consultant to HP. ?DS
