Qualstar first to integrate VXA

This quarter, Qualstar will begin offering Ecrix`s VXA-1 drives with its TLS-4000 family of tape libraries. Qualstar is the first library manufacturer to partner with the start-up drive manufacturer.

Announced last fall, VXA-1 provides 33GB of native capacity and has a native 3MBps transfer rate. Additionally, VXA features Variable Speed Operation technology, which eliminates backhitching problems with conventional streaming tape drives and reduces power consumption and heat dissipation in automated libraries, according to company officials.

Qualstar`s TLS-4000 family has a capacity range of 400GB to 5TB on 10 to 120 tapes. Housing up to six tape drives, the TLS-4000 supports concurrent read/write operations.
