Maxoptix intros 5.25-inch MO drives

Maxoptix last month introduced the Star series of 5.25-inch magneto-optical (MO) drives. The drives are available in two models, the 5.2GB T6-5200 and the 2.6GB T5-2600. Equipped with an Ultra-SCSI interface, the drives offer data transfer rates of up to 20MBps synchronous and 6.8MBps asynchronous. The Star series drives rotate at up to 3,868rpm using 2.6GB media, have a maximum 20MBps data transfer rate, and a 25ms average seek time.

With a turbo-cache system combined with 8MB of cache, the T6-5200 provides as much as 20% increased performance over previous drives. Both the 2.6GB and 5.2GB drives are compliant with ISO-Standard CCW and rewritable media, including 650MB, 1.3GB, 2.6GB MO, CCW, and LIMDOW.

The drives can be integrated into Windows 95/98, NT, UNIX, Netware, and Macintosh environments. Available through OEMs, distributors, VARs and system integrators, the T6-5200 and T5-2600 have a starting list price of $1,899 and $1,299, respectively.
