HP intros enterprise libraries

Broadening the breadth of its backup solutions, Hewlett-Packard last month introduced a new family of tape libraries for the enterprise. HP SureStore and HP SureStore E libraries are designed to meet the high-performance, high-capacity needs of such applications as E-commerce.

The libraries feature:

•Common architecture--available in a one- or two-drive 20-slot configuration (2/20), 4/40 configuration, and a 6/60 configuration for 800GB to 2.4TB of capacity.

•HP Web-based administration software--with links to leading enterprise system management solutions, including HP OpenView and Computer Associates TNG.

•DLT8000 drives--all models are field upgradable for next-generation drives, such as LTO and SuperDLT.

•HP-UX and NT support--as well as support for SCSI and Fibre Channel for connection to a SAN.

Additionally, the HP SureStore E comes in a high-end 20/700 model, which has hot-swappable, redundant components for 24x7 availability. This library extends storage capacity to 28TB using up 20 DLT8000 or 12 HP 9840 tape drives, with backup speeds to 450GB per hour.

The HP SureStor libraries are optimized for NT environments; the SureStore E for mission-critical applications. Entry-level pricing for both families ranges from $16,000 to $21,500. The 20/700 Sure Store E library is priced at $108,500. Shipments were expected Sept. 1.
