Pioneer ships 10x DVD-ROM drive

Last month, Pioneer New Media Technologies began shipping its DVD-114/104S, a 10x DVD-ROM drive. With compatibility with single- and dual-layer DVD-ROM, DVD-R, CD-ROM, and CD-R media, the drive provides random seek times of less than 90ms for DVD-ROM and 70ms for CD-ROM. DVD-114/104S access times are less than 100ms for DVD-ROM media and 80ms for CD-ROM.

The 5.25-inch drive has an ATAPI interface that supports PIO mode 4, DMA multi-word mode 2 and Ultra DMA 33. Both slot-load and tray-load options are offered. Ultra-SCSI drives are expected by year`s end. In addition to containing a 512KB buffer, the drive is compatible with the Windows 9x plug-and-play standard.
