-- Permabit Technology this week became the latest vendor to take its scale-out storage platform into the cloud. As part of a partnership with Mezeo Software, the company is pairing its Permabit Cloud Storage system with the Mezeo Cloud Storage Platform (MCSP) to give service providers an integrated hardware and software system for cloud storage services.
Permabit is offering its platform as the foundation for cloud storage in configurations of 72TB or 144TB of raw disk capacity. The system uses a grid architecture that expands up to 32 grids or 4.6PB of raw capacity and automatically redistributes data across the system as more nodes are added.
It also features Permabit's RAIN–EC architecture and Intelligent Recovery technology, which can sustain the failure of multiple nodes.
On the software side, the Mezeo Cloud Storage Platform can be packaged as a white label product so service providers can brand it as their own. The platform is extensible with RESTful Web service APIs to deliver storage access via the Internet and can be deployed on industry standard hardware and software, including Linux, Apache and PostgreSQL to build a multi-tenant environment.
The combined Mezeo/Permabit also includes data deduplication technology.
Tom Cook, Permabit's president and CEO, says the company will partner with other cloud vendors in the future.
