Adaptec has sold its Snap Server NAS business, including the brand and all assets related to Snap Server networked and desktop storage appliances, to Overland Storage for a net consideration of $3.6 million. Under the terms of the agreement, Adaptec will retain ownership of all iSCSI-based hardware and software products and assets, which will be re-branded and managed by Adaptec.

Hewlett Packard will resell Sonasoft’s backup-and-recovery software for Microsoft Exchange, SQL, and Windows servers.

The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) has approved the eXtensible Access Method (XAM) version 1.0 specification and released a working draft of the associated XAM Software Development Kit (SDK). The XAM specification is now being prepared for ANSI and ISO accreditation and is expected to be integrated into storage products by fall 2008 and into applications by early 2009.
