Market shares shift in the disk array race

– According to a recent report from IDC, the external disk array market posted a 17.1% year-over-year revenue gain in Q1 2010, hitting $5 billion.

As noted in an article posted on InfoStor sister site Enterprise Storage Forum, "NetApp made a surprising leap in the rankings, vaulting past Dell and HP into a virtual tie for second place with IBM." IBM had an 11.7% market share and NetApp had an 11.1% share.

Dell grew 21.8% in the quarter to catch HP in a dead heat for fourth place. Both vendors had a market share of slightly more than 10%.

EMC retained the #1 spot with a 24.6% market share.

Overall, the open SAN market grew 20.3%, while the NAS market grew 44.6% and the iSCSI market gained 45.7%.
