-- Asigra has teamed up with NetApp to provide cloud-based backup and recovery as a service (BRaaS) hardware and software for service providers. Features include agent-less software, SLA monitoring and management, a multi-tiered backup billing system, FIPS 140-2 security, and grid-based scalability.

-- Overland Storage introduced the NEO E Series enterprise backup and archive solutions with LTO-5 tape technology. The NEO 2000E, NEO 4000E and NEO 8000E Series range in storage capacity from 45TB to 3PB with data transfer rates as high as 24TB per hour, which is nearly twice the performance and a 20% increase in data throughput compared to their LTO-4 based predecessors. Overland also launched the NEO Upgrade and Save Program wherein current NEO customers can receive cash rebates of up to $12,000 by upgrading their legacy NEO tape drive technologies to LTO-5 solutions. NEO LTO-5 solutions are available now with a starting MSRP of $8999.

-- NetApp unveiled new design guides and capabilities geared specifically for cloud service providers, including NetApp Service-Oriented Infrastructure (SOI), Data Protection as a Service (DPaaS), Backup/Recovery as a Service (BRaaS) and NetApp Open Management. In addition, service providers can also take advantage of the recently announced Cisco, NetApp, and VMware Secure Multi-tenancy Design Architecture, according to NetApp.

-- SunGard Availability Services has expanded its Secure2Disk backup and recovery portfolio to include a service based on EMC Data Domain deduplicating disk-based backup systems. SunGard's new offering – Secure2Disk powered by Data Domain – includes onsite backup and stores backup data at a secure SunGard recovery center, where it is available for restoration.

-- Pivot3 has raised $25 million in a new funding round led by Focus Ventures, InterWest Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Mesirow Financial Capital Partners IX, and Silver Creek Ventures. The investment will be used to expand sales operations beyond the Americas, as well as to develop and promote innovations that open up new markets for the Pivot3 Serverless Computing SAN platform, according to the company.

-- LSI announced three new software options that extend the performance and data protection capabilities of its LSI 6Gbps SAS/SATA MegaRAID controller cards. The new MegaRAID FastPath and CacheCade offerings optimize application performance in direct-attached storage (DAS) environments configured with solid-state drives (SSDs). The MegaRaid Recovery option enhances data protection through new snapshot functionality, which enables rapid file and volume-level data recovery.

-- EMC announced expanded services and new offerings from the RSA Security Practice of EMC Consulting for secure virtualization and private cloud environments, fraud risk mitigation, advanced security operations, and more.
