Quantum/ATL and Atto Technology last month announced the Prism FC230, a second-generation Fibre Channel-to-SCSI bridge. Part of ATL's Prism Storage Architecture, the bridge is available for immediate shipment with P2000 and P3000 libraries at a starting price of $11,995. The bridge will support the full throughput of Super DLT and LTO Ultrium tape drives and, with ATL's Prism Management Card, will allow for centralized library management. It is also ready for advanced features, such as server-less backup and port fail-over.

QLogic and Veritas Software have announced plans to co-market and distribute solutions for complete SAN management. Specifically, the two companies will bundle and resell Veritas SANPoint Control with QLogic's host bus adapters and switches. The software, which will carry the "Veritas SANPoint Control for QLogic" brand, targets open, heterogeneous SANs, with the ability to centrally discover, visualize, and zone other vendors' SAN components.

Pathlight Technology signed an OEM agreement with Computer Network Technology and Unique Digital Inc., a global provider of data storage products. CNT and UDI will add Pathlight's SAN Gateway and SAN Router SAN appliances to their solutions portfolios.

IBM has selected Emulex's LightPulse LP8000 PCI Fibre Channel host bus adapter as the target connector for the Shark ESS. Adapter features include full-fabric support using F_Port and FL_Port connections, hardware context cache, multi-protocol support (SCSI, IP, SB-2, and VI), high-data integrity, and full-duplex data transfers for up to 200MBps bandwidth.

StorageNetworks last month signed a strategic agreement with Network Appliance. StorageNetworks will implement NetApp filer technology into its Global Data Storage Network (GDSN). The two companies will also partner in various sales and marketing initiatives.

QLogic last month finalized its acquisition of Ancor and the SANbox product line. QLogic will market, under its own name, SANbox Fibre Channel switch products to its OEM customers, resellers, and premier partners. Separately, QLogic announced that IBM will use QLogic's QLA22000 series Fibre Channel adapters in its Netfinity disk and tape systems. Hitachi Data Systems also announced that it has qualified QLogic's 8-port and 16-port SANbox Fibre Channel switches for use in its SAN systems.

Exodus Communications, an Internet host provider, and SSP provider StorageNetworks recently formed a strategic alliance. Exodus will offer Exodus Storage Services Powered by StorageNetworks as a managed service to its customers. Services include StorageNetworks, BackPACS, DataPACS, SafePACS, and NetPACS.

Vixel and Network Appliance announced a technology collaboration, with the intent of extending the scalability, performance, and manageability of Fibre Channel storage solutions. Specifically, Net App will work with Vixel to enhance the latter's Hydra "loop switch on a chip" ASICs for use in embedded storage systems.

Compaq is now offering Quantum's DLT 8000 under its own label. The Compaq 40/80GB DLT tape drives target midrange enterprise computing markets.

DataCore Software has successfully completed its second round of equity funding, amounting to $35 million. New financial investors include JT Ventures, Banc of America Securities, Dain Rauscher Wessers, and Intel Capital. Last May, DataCore launched SANsymphony, its flagship storage domain server software.

Inrange Technologies announced plans to complement its IN-VSN Virtual Storage Networking family of channel directors, optical multiplexers, and channel extension products and services by acquiring Computerm Corp. and its suite of channel extension offerings, which include 8800 Series RemoteCopy and 8200 Series Channel Extenders.

At Linux World Conference and Expo last month, Overland demonstrated its AIT LibraryPro running Knox Software's Arkeia network backup software for Linux and other platforms. Earlier in the month, Knox Software certified Arkeia running on Overland Data's AIT LibraryPro libraries.

StorNet Inc., an independent storage solutions provider, last month added NetVault storage management software, from BakBone Software, to its software portfolio. NetVault enables users to manage backup, restore, and archiving functions across a variety of platforms and in distributed heterogeneous client/

server, multi-user, and SAN environments. BakBone Software also announced a strategic alliance with SanOne.

Spectra Logic announced Gator support for Ecrix Corporation's VXA and Exabyte's Mammoth-2 tape drives. Both devices can be integrated into Spectra 12000 and 64000 libraries. Pricing and configuration options will be announced this quarter. Separately, Spectra Logic also announced its membership to the FibreAlliance Consortium.

Pegasus Disk Technologies, a provider of management software for removable optical storage devices, last month announced compatibility of its InveStore software with Microsoft Windows 2000.
