-- FalconStor Software and Idera Software announced a sales and marketing partnership to deliver backup and restores of de-duplicated Microsoft SharePoint sites and site collections. The two companies provide a backup and recovery solution with optimized data de-duplication for SharePoint applications through Idera SharePoint backup and FalconStor's File-interface Deduplication System (FDS).

-- Rackable Systems has completed its acquisition of Silicon Graphics Inc., and has adopted 'SGI' as the brand name for the acquired products. The acquisition was valued at $42.5 million.

-- Hewlett-Packard (HP) is now shipping the HP StorageWorks System Copy, a new software product that allows organizations to replicate SAP production databases for testing, maintenance and development purposes. System Copy for use with SAP automates the multiple steps involved in copying SAP applications.

-- Vembu Technologies has partnered with Caringo to integrate Vembu's StoreGrid online backup software with Caringo's CAStor clustered storage software. The resulting backup solution is targeted at MSPs, VARs, hosting providers, and companies with remote branch offices.

-- Capacity optimization specialist Storwize has tweaked its STN-OS operating system software to take advantage of the hardware capabilities Intel’s Xeon processor 5500 series. Storwize appliances do not use any internal disk or compression hardware and their STN-OS is uniquely architected to be CPU-centric and software-based allowing software enhancements to drive improvements in random-access throughput. The company claims performance improvements of as much as 70% after integrating the Intel micro-architecture.

-- Pillar Data Systems announced the availability of new Citrix XenServer storage profiles for the Pillar Axiom storage systems. Now, customers deploying Citrix XenServer will be able to take advantage of the Axiom’s Application-Aware capabilities and guaranteed 80% utilization rates. Additionally, Pillar is supporting Citrix StorageLink.

-- Double-Take Software announced a solution with Microsoft that enables disaster recovery for virtual workloads without shared storage or SAN-based data replication. The solution uses Double-Take Software’s GeoCluster to extend Microsoft Windows Server 2008 failover clustering and Hyper-V to give customers both a local and remote availability solution for their virtual machines.

-- LaCie announced enhancements to two of its network storage solutions – the LaCie 2big Network and the LaCie 5big Network. The LaCie 5big Network takes advantage of a Gigabit Ethernet connection and features five hot-swappable drives that support seven RAID modes. Now, with the latest capacity advancements, the 5big Network includes a 10TB model. The 2big Network is a two-bay RAID device that provides up to 4TB of storage. Its upgrades include features such as Windows Active Directory Support (ADS) and local backup. It also supports integration with Windows network domains.
