Dell Computer is partnering with Imation to establish its most recent Dell Technology Solutions Center (DTSC). Dell will use Imation's SAN Solutions Lab in Oakdale, MN, for validation testing, performance tuning, and scalability testing. Dell personnel and customers can use the lab to simulate "real-world" application and SAN configurations in multi- vendor environments.
The pending combination of Maxtor and Quantum's Hard Disk Drive Group has been cleared to proceed under U.S. and European antitrust pre-merger notification requirements. The companies expect the transaction to be completed in the first quarter of 2001.
Computer Associates and EMC have formed an alliance to offer customers enhanced enterprise storage area network management and security. The companies are cooperating on a number of initiatives, including integrating their respective storage products and hosting joint educational and technology initiatives in early 2001. Separately, EMC and Legato Systems announced last month that they will release Legato NetWorker 6.0.1 with Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) support for EMC's Celerra and the CLARiion IP470 family of network-attached storage (NAS) systems. Emulex has signed an agreement with Compaq to develop a Fibre Channel host adapter to support Compaq's VersaStor technology.
