-- Samsung Electronics announced a new line-up of high-density hard disk drives (HDDs) for high-end computing environments, the Spinpoint F3. The F3 operates at 7200RPM with offerings of up to 1TB of storage capacity by using two 500GB per platter disks. The F3 incorporates a 7200RPM rotational speed, a 3.0Gbps SATA interface, Native Command Queuing features and a 16MB/32MB buffer memory. The Spinpoint F3 is currently available in 500GB capacities worldwide. The 1TB drive is scheduled for initial shipment in August.

-- Fujitsu Computer Products of America launched a new aggregated series of 24-port and 48-port 1Gb/10GbE Ethernet Switches. The 24-port XG0224 and 48-port XG0448 will feature auto sensing 10/100/1000 Base-T with 4 ports of SFP optics and open slots for 1 or 2 dual port 10GbE uplink cards, depending upon the model.

-- Pivot3 announced the Pivot3 Serverless Computing VideoBank, a storage server appliance for distributed surveillance environments with a usable capacity of up to 10TB and an integrated virtual server. The VideoBank appliance is available through approved Pivot3 channel partners. A 4TB VideoBank costs $8,800, which includes a free virtual server. 

-- Toshiba's latest generation solid-state disk (SSD) drives, based on 43nm MLC NAND-flash, are now shipping to manufacturers. Toshiba's SSDs are initially available to OEMs only, in capacities of 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB, in 1.8-inch or 2.5-inch drive enclosures, targeted for use in notebook computers, gaming and home entertainment systems.

-- Fusion-io announced that the ioXtreme has increased data performance by up to 6X for the Maya Composite high dynamic range compositing component of Autodesk Maya 2010 software. In testing, the ioXtreme out performed an enterprise-class, four-drive RAID by more than 200%.
